::My Real Wood Island Top::

Ever since we moved into our new-build cottage bungalow, I wanted a real wood top on my island.

I pretty much decided we'd replace the wood-look formica within the first year.

Yeah.

Here's an old iphone pic of the faker laminate.

That stayed in our kitchen for 2.5 years. *sigh*

And if blog posts had sound enabled, you'd hear me squealing right here....

We had a master woodworker friend make it for us.

And it's almost as delicious as the sourdough bread from the farmer's market.

Not to much red or orange, and with lots of worm holes and rugged rustic farmhousey goodness.

I ADORE it on the {Washed Aqua by Porter Paints} kitchen cabs...swoooony!

I mean, can you love a wood top island like a child?

Pretty sure you can.

But I don't baby it like one. Just warm water wash down after meals. Target Method Wood Cleaner/Conditoner once a week.

It blends perfectly with our laminate floors...rich and deep brown, with black streaks.

I love the more rustic touches I've added to my kitchen since we built it.

There's a story there.  About how I repainted the cabinets our builder painted first. *ahem*

Any real wood counter top/island folk out there?  Love it? Hate it?
