Ever wonder how to define your decor style? I know I did, and I occasionally need a refresher course. I recently revived this old post via an INSTAGRAM LIVE (linked below) with my daughter Maddie for our hashtag #honingyourhomestyle Maddie is passionate about all things home, seeing herself not as a decorator/stylist but as a homemaker. She’s a good egg, and inspires me to continue the process of creating thru my heart, not just my head. I believe everyone intuitively… Read more »

This here post is Part 1 of our newest den do-over.     With extremely cute grandlittles.     The front room just off the entry has been everything from a bland white-walled cra{p}ft room, to a pale pink-walled Mary Kay party room, to a poop brown-walled room where all miscellaneous… Read more »

FINALLY!  I’m showing you the guest room all finished. Which is code for “finished for now”, because we all know no room gets finished. When it does, that means it’s time to redo it, amiright?   I used a lot of what I had on hand, but I supplimented with some smart buys and thrifted items…   Chair was a craigslist find. Want to easily get the Cottage look in your bedroom?     My take on Cottage Style is a cozy, collected dwelling full of quirky pieces, a signature color pop, and rustic touches softened by some well-placed florals and ruffles….a kinda Rachel Ashwell meets Jojo Gaines vibe.     I love a mix of all things cottage and farmhouse….so when I stumbled upon the stonewashed linen bedding from Oscar and French I knew what direction I wanted to take the… Read more »

There are just so many talented Makers out there. SO many. One of these amazeballs Makers is a friend who I met when I was painting furniture. ADORE! I’ve been wanting a statement piece in this… Read more »

Going thru old blog posts on ::cottage instincts:: has been super interesting as well as super weird.     Like reading an old diary.  Part “hey, I’m a pretty good writer/decorator/photographer” and part “oh hell no.” Anyway, I’m kickin’ it back Old School and rehashing a few posts I thought would be fun to revisit over here.  Like the time I was contacted by Better Homes and Gardens.   And I thought it was spam and almost deleted it. They… Read more »

So we all love us some vintage aqua Ball jars, yeah?     Like seriously adore that perfect shade of aqua and their galvanized zinc lids.  I want to marry them.   I thought it might be interesting to share a bit of my history as it collided with those jars because, well, I have connections.

Sublime. Ineffable. Unique.   Maybe some of you Bright Lights remember my first blog ::cottage instincts::? I just can’t get that beloved nest out of my mind.  Other than being supremely beautiful and including all my favorite colors in nature (robin’s egg blue and earthy naturals), it represents so much of my decorating (and life) philosophy.
